The all-day beach bash, a collision of surf and Americana, will be headlined this year by 1960s jazz-rock veterans Blood, Sweat & Tears (“You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel”) performing at 4:45 p.m., leading a music bill on two stages that will include Swahili Band (noon, South Stage), Pitbull of Blues (12:30 p.m., North Stage), Shane Duncan (2:30 p.m., South Stage), the Storm (3 p.m., North Stage), Sabor Latino (5:30 p.m., South Stage) and Pocket Change (6:45 p.m., North Stage).
Music will be paired with a wealth of family-oriented fun, including a sand castle-sculpting contest hosted by sculptor John May (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) between Poinsettia and Cortez streets. More patriotism will come from the SOCOM Para-Commandos, a volunteer team of U.S. armed forces members (1:30 p.m.), who will skydive from 12,500 feet over the Atlantic and parachute onto targets on the sand.
We’re also eyeing the classic car show (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), featuring 70 customs and hot rods lining A1A between Cortez and Castillo streets. Other diversions will include an art exhibit display featuring works from 20 artists; and a Family Fun Zone on Poinsettia Street with beach games and inflatables.
